Aleppo Olive & laurel oil soap
Laurel soap is Syrian product in origin. This product is concentrating in Aleppo and also in the areas which plant olive trees. As for laurel oil, it is imported from Turkey basically considering that Syrian produced quantities are not enough for industrial needs. Large variety of laurel soap which is produced in Syria , changes in quality according to additive ingredients and ratio of laurel oil which control in price and goodness. Most of Syrian production is sold locally and huge amounts are exported to several countries especially the ones which have a comprehension and interest in natural products.
Laurel soap "Ghar" is the name that given to olive oil and laurel oil hand made soap, which is one of the important original Syrian products that found in Aleppo from the beginning. So it is known internationally as Aleppo soap and it is made from natural elements to take care of skin and it is very beneficial to sensitive and weary skin even for the one which is harmed from skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis. Laurel soap is nourishing, refreshing and taking care of skin that's why the number of interested people about laurel soap is growing around the world.
The root of this soap goes back to numeral centuries where it is still made in the same method and in the same style. Soap industry is a proficient and deep rooted craft, and it has to use good ingredients, expert workers and extreme attentiveness during producing phases to produce good soap.
Aleppo soap may produce just in cold months from January till march , and it is still made in the same simple ways that depends on putting 5 tons from olive oil and cooking it in a huge vessel with adding amount of laurel oil and this amount is basically classified the soap quality.
Olive oil is poured in special pots and mixed with sodium carbonate which is stuff originated from desert's plants. The mixture is almost heated till 200 Celsius degree with continuous moving to decompose the oil and release glycerin. This process is called saponification, and before the end laurel olive is added according to desired proportion. When this process is ended, the mixture is poured in its designed places and left couple of hours to get cold and hold together. When the soap cohered it is cut manual with special tools, after that it is signet and aligned over each other with leaving empty spaces between pieces in well airing chambers to dry well.
Finally the soap color is started to change gradually from green to yellow and Thickness of yellow surface indicates to the age of soap.
